José María Toro Albalá's dream. The Toro Albalá winery was founded in 1922 in the heart of southern Cordoba, which is known for its Montilla-Moriles wine region. Our story begins with the story of a modest winemaker, José María Toro Albalá, who had the great idea of keeping aged wines to create treasures for the most demanding palates. His family values are still based on this philosophy today. Although his idea was seen as a risk given the economic situation at the time, it was a great success. Toro Albalá wines are now on the best dining tables in the world. “Fino” wines were the most popular wines among largely rural Andalusian workers who visited the local bars in the 1930s. The "bodega" or the winery was located in a former regional power plant, from which the Andalusian joke came from that the wine was electric or had electricity, hence the famous name "Eléctrico" - which is still used today - for its "Fino" wine.
